This weeks TDN was moved to saturday, so SDN…which had apple as theme. The apple things i had available was Apfelkorn, cider, applejuice and apples. As i`m still into vanilla i added that to my rum based drinks,so they are all both apple (and vanilla) themed. I`m not sure when this vanilla break is going to be.

The chatroom was full and there were as usual many nice drinks made, a roundup is posted at Kaiserpenguin and Mixoloseum.

DOWN THE RIVER

2 oz demerara rum
1 oz apfelkorn
¼  oz lemon juice
0.5 oz raw sugar syrup

Top with ginger beer

Shake all except ginger beer, strain into chilled rocks glass filled with ice chunks. Garnish a slice of fresh apple dusted with cinnamon on the rim and a vanilla bean.

MADAGASCAR

With inspiration from this mysterious island, here is a combination of vanilla and pernod.

1 oz aged agricole
1 oz golden rum
1 oz apfelkorn
½ barspoon pernod
0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
0.5 oz vanilla syrup

Top with sprite or lemon soda.

Shake all ingredients except the Sprite, strain and pour in to a cocktail glass with crushed ice. Top with Sprite and garnish with a speared lime wedge and stemmed cherry.

I tried this one also with aged cachaca and then tequila reposado and found the cachaca version especially tasty.


TROPICAL MORNING

When its still dark and the fresh dew is on the grass.

2 oz white rum
1 oz apfelkorn
1 barspoon applejuice concentrate
1 thin slice fresh ginger
juice from i lime cut in wedges
Schweppes lemon
1 vanilla bean.

Pour rum, apfelkorn and concentrated applejuice  in a chilled fancy glass. Cut the lime in wedges and squeeze some of the juice into the drink. Drop the wedges into the glass.Add a slice of fresh ginger and ice. Stir well.

Throw in a vanilla bean and purpleish persian basil for garnish.
The addition of a fresh slice of ginger which slowly releases its flavor to be noticed a bit later, is refreshing.


CINNAMON MAHARANI

1 oz dark rum,
1 oz apfelkorn
0.75 oz pineapple juice
0.5 oz fresh pink grapefruit juice
¼  oz cinnamon syrup
0.5 oz overproof demerara rum.
Top with Ginger ale

Rim a tall glass with cinnamon powder and chill.

Shake all ingredients except the Ginger ale and pour into ice filled glass. Top with Ginger ale, then add a decent float of demerara rum. Garnish tall cinnamon stick.
