Excellent post, Tiare. I’m also intrigued by the ice molds, but I didn’t realize how much work it would be to make them. Still, looks like it was worth the effort.

I’d like to attend Tales of the Cocktail as well, but as usual, my work schedule won’t allow me to go this year.

Its a pity to not be able to attend isn`t it? i would really like to attend..

I´ll do more ice mold experiments, its very interesting and FUN! its worth all the work i can assure you.

The reward is to imbibe the sparkling drink when your`re done..

There was an article on ice molds on one of the blogs recently. I’m guessing it was Trader Tiki, but I’m not a hundred percent sure.

To make really good ice molds I think you’ want to find an ice shaver. I picked one up at a local K-mart for about $20. I’ve also seen them at target. I don’t know how easy that will be for you, but I’m sure you can find one on the web somewhere. The shaver gives you almost the consistency of snow. It’s easy to work with until your fingers start to freeze. I just need a little more practice. I’ve got pics of my first attempts at in my flickr which I know you’ve seen, but if anybody else wants to check it out, I’ll put it in my blog today. I can’t get link or picture codes to work in the comment.

I’ve got another friend who did pretty well with running her ice through her crusher, then through a food processor.

Yeah i know, i need to get one from the US, maybe Ebay. I want the ice like snow as you said so the molds get much thinner.

    More experiments to come!

    Looks great!

I was lucky enough to be at the Tales of the Cocktail session on garnishing with Martin Cate and Jeff Berry. Very interesting for me since I have never learned much about Tiki drink garnishing.

I need to experiment with this, but guess it is going to have to wait a few months since I am traveling at the moment. In the Caribbean but I can’t make myself an ice garnish. Damn!
